Ministry of Public Works, Communications and Housing, Guatemala

The Ministry is responsible for the country’s vast highways and road infrastructure, including planning, development, construction, road safety, maintenance and repairs, communications services and housing development. For over 100 years, the Ministry has been responsible for the development of more than 1,000 bridges, 6500km of paved highways, 6000 rural telephony services (FONDETEL), and the construction of over 100,000 housing units nationwide, including restoration following earthquakes and tropical storms. Funded by the local Guatemalan government and performed under contract to T&M, Economikr developed a pavement management system for Guatemala’s interurban road network. This PMS included several then-novel features, including the first GIS map ever integrated in a PMS.
